Services we offer

Wakefield MDC Contract — WDSA has a contract with WMDC to deliver certain equipment via our Outreach Worker, Stephen Firth.

Equipment —Symbol canes, White Walking Sticks, Liquid Level Indicators, Tactile Marking and British Wireless for the Blind Fund equipment.

We also administer the RNIB Talking Book Service and our volunteer, Vic Willett, handles all queries regarding Talking Book players.

Social Group — our Social Group meets every Thursday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Trinity Methodist Church, Powell Street, Castleford WF10 1EL. The venue is conveniently placed near the Bus Station. Light refreshments are served and there is also a raffle and other group activities. There is a charge of £1.50 per person. All are welcome at the social group and it is a good way to meet other visually impaired people. WDSA staff are always on hand at the group to answer queries or deal with problems.

Parkside Centre — At our office at Parkside Centre (open Mon - Thurs 9.30am to 1.30pm) we have a range of specialist equipment available for people to try out (and order if they wish). On most Monday mornings, we have a specialist officer available to provide help and advice. Please ring for an appointment first.

Sight Aid Outreach Demonstration Days

WDSA hold regular Demonstraton Days throughout the area where people can come and try out equipment, get information, order items, meet others and learn about other issues, such as safety in the home. The Demo Days are open to all members of the public involved with sight loss issues.
